Orthodontics is a specialized form of dentistry that deals diagnosing, deterring, treating dental and facial irregularities. These problems are classified as a malocclusion, which refers to the imperfect position of the teeth when the jaws are closed, preventing the teeth from doing their job properly.
A general dentist, Dr. Oliver is experienced and skilled in the design, application, and control of corrective measures, also known as braces. With braces, we can properly align teeth, lips, and jaws to bring about facial balance for you.
In almost all cases, it is less expensive to correct a problem when a patient is young than to wait for the problem to worsen as they continue to age.
When braces are implemented early on, the time needed to be in fixed braces is usually decreased, frequently eliminating the need to extract permanent teeth. We can give our patients an improved smile, profile, and overall self-esteem.
We can correct harmful habits, such as thumb-sucking and tongue thrusting. We can develop arches and create beautiful, broad smiles and make more room for the tongue.
Orthodontics can prevent headaches and earaches, and help our patients improve their speech. Using orthodontic treatment, we can also increase nasal breathing and eliminate grinding teeth at night, which can improve sleep.
Orthodontics can also eliminate airway constriction, which helps overall breathing. All of these improvements can have a positive effect on overall health.
Ever wondered how Invisalign works? Here’s the process:
Dr. Oliver will take an impression of your teeth. We will analyze the model made from the impression with 3-D computer imaging technology. That technology will calculate the best way to straighten your teeth and over what period of time. With that information, a series of clear plastic aligners will be made for you.
We’ll have you come in every 6 to 8 weeks for adjustments and to check your progress. Each aligner will be worn for 2 weeks and are virtually invisible, making them nearly unnoticeable. You will rotate to a new aligner at 2-week intervals until you treatment is complete, which usually spans over 6-14 months. An average Invisalign course of treatment takes about a year, though the total number of clear aligners is specific to you. When you’re finished wearing all of the clear aligners in your series, your treatment will be complete. Congratulations! Your teeth will be straighter and you will have the beautiful smile you want and deserve.
Whether you need minor improvements or more extensive adjustments, Invisalign can help. It’s successful in treating a variety of oral issues, including overly crowded or widely spaced teeth. It can also help with more complex issues, such as an overbite, underbite, and even crossbite. The Delta Dentist can use Invisalign clear aligners in pretty much all treatment plans.
Because Invisalign utilizes clear plastic aligners to move and straighten teeth, you can keep your active lifestyle during treatment. Invisalign aligners have no metal bands or wires to irritate your mouth, unlike braces. Since Invisalign can be taken out, simply remove the clear aligners for special events or if you’re going to indulge in a sticky, gooey snack. You can’t do that with braces!
You are never too old to improve your smile! We treat adults for a wide variety of conditions, including overbites and underbites. Roughly 25 percent of today’s orthodontic patients are adults.
Teeth can be moved at any age, and more adults are electing to undergo orthodontic treatment to achieve straight teeth, a beautiful smile, and healthy jaw joints.
Many adults prefer clear or gold braces, which are usually more aesthetically pleasing than standard metal braces. No two smiles are alike, however, so no two orthodontic treatment programs are going to be the same.
Typically, active treatment times range from one to two years and can vary with the degree of tooth movement and the severity of the problem patients would like to remedy.
